Any clue as to what caused the detonation?

Too much heat?

I don't get it. I don't see anything wrong with these pistons. Somebody educate me!

What ultimately destroyed the motor (we think) is a faulty MSD distributor cap. The insulator on the coil connection came out, causing the cap to arc with other cylinders.

Blownaway: It's not clearly evident, but the rings are shattered... However somehow they didnt fall apart and damage the cylinder walls. (thank god)

pter: The pistons you see are stock GSR (B18C1).

Can't tell about the rings from the pictures, but the ring lands are falling out all over the place. It's amazing what runs!

Yeah... Believe it or not, the car WOULD run. At idle it sounded fine. Rev it up and boy did things change. Major blowby... Evident from the exhaust pouring out out the crankcase breather hose.

Oh well.... She'll be back, and better than ever.
